Giancarlo Vaiarelli
Considered a modern artisan of photography, Giancarlo Vaiarelli is a specialist photo printer, expert in the black and white techniques of platinum and palladium. His one-of-a-kind creative vision expertly translates the secrets of the oldest photographic techniques into the production of contemporary images. He has worked with renowned photographers such as Bruce Weber and Albert Watson just to name a few, and contributed to the creation of numerous campaigns of the most important fashion houses.
Philosophy
To know light—nature’s pencil—to understand how it draws and leaves an impression on photographic paper: it is high artisan craft, culture. Artisan techniques that the “masters of print” bring with them, a cargo of knowledge that has been enriched over time, made of passion and experimentation.
In this moment, we are experiencing a historic period in which the artisanal is on everyone’s mind. This added value was a motivating force behind Giancarlo Vaiarelli’s decision to present himself on the Milan scene as a guest of a collective, a group of “good fellows,” which will breathe life into a boutique/atelier in which the artisan linked with creative processes will be given free reign to produce... images, both static and moving... to produce culture, culture of handing down. Experience, sensitivity, artisanal craft at the service of young photographers who will gain access to an “old-school” approach, and pass knowledge from one generation to the next that would have otherwise soon been lost.
The Darkroom
The darkroom, the moment in which images come to life. The darkroom, workshop, genesis point of the art of hand printed photography. The darkroom, interaction between artist and printer during the printing phase. The darkroom, a fountain of artistic knowledge for institutions, foundations and individuals.Services
